  Chiclana de la Frontera

Chiclana currently has about 75.000 inhabitants. Many people are of the opinión that the climate in Chiclana is absolutely perfect. The mean annual temperature is 20ºC and, even more important, there are about 3.400 hours of sunshine every year. This amount of light, as in other towns along the coast of Cádiz, means that Chiclana forms an integral part of the Costa de la Luz or Coast of Light. Its summers are not too hot, thanks to the alternating easterly and westerly winds, and its winters are mild. Ideally situated on the coast of Cadiz with a superb infrastructure of hotels, restaurants, bars and all the essential services, it has become a first-rate tourist destination.

Chiclana has a long wine-making tradition and wine features high in the gastronomic culture of the town. Its wines are made according to strict traditional methods and a visit to a local bodega, combined with a wine-tasting session, is a wonderful experience.

The local cuisine is the traditional Andalusian. A very popular dish is berza (a stew with a chick pea and white bean base together with meat and vegetables). Fish caught locally and from the fish farms in the nearby wetlands are very tasty. The town is also famous for its sweet desserts.

The wonderfully fine sandy beach of La Barrosa stretches over eight kilometres from the small island of Sancti Petri as far as Torre del Puerco.
The first part of La Barrosa is in front of a built-up area with a promenade and all the services the tourist would expect, whereas the second part, in front of the "Complejo Atlántico" development, is just open beach.
Since its inception Chiclana has always been awarded the European Blue Flag for clean water and environmental management. It is considered to be one of the best beaches in Andalusia for its fine, clean sand, clear water and the beautiful, unspoilt dunes and cliffs to be found near the Novo Sancti Petri development, a luxury sports complex with fourstar hotels, golf courses, equestrian centre, shopping centre, etc.
The beaches at Sancti Petri are two miles long and are just opposite the little island. Next to the beach is the village of Sancti Petri with a marina, sailing club, sailing and windsurfing school, infirmary and a ferry service for boat trips.
